Season-Ending Triceps Injury Sidelines Cardinals’ Justin Jones
Arizona Cardinals’ Defensive Star, Justin Jones Sidelined for the Season
Major Injury Blow for Arizona Cardinals
In a recent development from Tempe, Arizona, the Arizona Cardinals have lost their defensive linchpin, Justin Jones, to a season-ending triceps injury. The unfortunate news was confirmed on Wednesday by coach Jonathan Gannon. In response to this setback, the Cardinals have enlisted the services of defensive lineman Naquan Jones, who previously trained with the team, from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.
Justin Jones: An Irreplaceable Asset?
“He’ll bounce back stronger,” Gannon optimistically commented on the future of Justin Jones. He also assured that the team will “find a way” to cope with the loss of their star player. Jones suffered this injury in the late stages of the second quarter in the recent game against Detroit Lions. He had a commendable record of playing 98 snaps, making four tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit and a fumble recovery in just under three full games this season. Jones was also the most double-teamed Cardinals defender on pass rushes, facing two defenders on 50.9% of his pass rushes. In March, Jones entered a three-year contract with Arizona worth a maximum of $31.1 million, including a $9.75 million signing bonus.
Other Injury Concerns for the Cardinals
Gannon also gave an update on other injury concerns within the team. Tight end, Trey McBride, is still under concussion protocol following a harsh collision with safety Brian Branch in the late stages of the fourth quarter. Right tackle, Jackson Barton’s toe injury is being monitored on a daily basis. He stepped in for Kelvin Beachum, who was out due to a hamstring injury, making Barton the third-string right tackle for Arizona. Barton’s replacement, Charlie Heck, received praise from Gannon, stating, “He stepped in and proved his worth. He is a true professional, and we are confident with him on the field. He is a competent player.” Beachum’s injury status will continue to be assessed over the coming week.
