The Unexpected Struggles of NFL’s Top Kicker Justin Tucker
Unusual Performance Slump for NFL Star Kicker Justin Tucker
Justin Tucker’s Surprising Field Goal Struggles
From the Baltimore Ravens training center in Owings Mills, Maryland, the latest news is that Justin Tucker, the NFL’s most accurate kicker, is in an unexpected performance slump. Tucker, a seven-time Pro Bowl kicker, has missed a field goal in three consecutive games for the first time in his 13-year career. All his misses have been wide left at 53, 56, and 46 yards. His current success rate of 62.5% (5-of-8) is the lowest among kickers who have attempted at least three field goals this season.
Coaching Insight into Tucker’s Struggles
Ravens coach John Harbaugh spoke on Monday, attributing Tucker’s problems to a technical issue. “He’s aware of what the problem is and is working to correct it. I have complete trust in his ability to overcome this,” Harbaugh commented.
Ravens’ Encouragement for Tucker
Despite his recent troubles, Tucker remains the most accurate all-time field goal kicker with a minimum of 100 attempts. His impressive 89.7% conversion rate (400-of-446) slightly trumps Harrison Butker and Eddy Pineiro, both of whom have a success rate of 89.5%. However, Tucker’s recent performance in long-range kicks is a stark contrast to his previous record. He had a 67% success rate for kicks over 50 yards in his first 11 seasons, including an NFL-record 66-yarder. Over the last two seasons, his success rate for kicks over 50 yards has dropped to just 1-of-8.
Continuing Support for Tucker
Despite Tucker’s recent struggles, the team’s faith in him remains firm. After Sunday’s 28-25 victory over the Cowboys, Harbaugh embraced Tucker and reassured him of the team’s unwavering support. “Justin is aware of our full support. I’ve made sure he knows that the talent and ability are still there, and it’s just a technical issue that needs addressing. Justin is a professional, and I have utmost belief that he will pull through,” Harbaugh confidently stated.
