Pro Bowl Star Devin White Joins Texans: A Significant Addition to the Lineup

Devin White, Former Pro Bowl Linebacker, Signed by Houston Texans

Houston Texans Secure Devin White’s Contract

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Houston Texans made a significant move by signing Devin White, a former Pro Bowl linebacker, who was let go by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier within the same month. Despite being signed to a one-year contract worth $4 million by the Eagles during free agency, White remained inactive for Philadelphia’s initial four games. He then sat out the fifth game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his ex-team, due to personal circumstances.

An inside source within the league informed reporters that the Eagles opted to release White ahead of the trade deadline. This strategic decision allowed him to not be subject to waivers, giving him the flexibility to choose his next team.

White’s Impressive Career Highlights

White, aged 26, began his professional journey with the Buccaneers, where he played for five seasons. He was recognized as part of the NFL All-Rookie Team in 2019. During the 2020 regular season, he stood out as the team’s top performer with 140 combined tackles (97 solo), along with 9 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and 4 defended passes.

White’s Outstanding Postseason Performance

Despite missing the wild-card playoff game due to COVID-19, White was the Buccaneers’ lead performer during the postseason. He achieved 38 combined postseason tackles (27 solo), 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions. One of these interceptions was a pick-six against Patrick Mahomes, quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, which contributed to Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl LV triumph.

In 2021, White received his only Pro Bowl recognition after finishing the season with 128 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He continued his stellar performance in 2022 with 124 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Despite dealing with foot and groin injuries, he started in 13 games during the last season, ending with 83 tackles and 2.5 sacks. However, he was later replaced in the starting lineup by K.J. Britt.

White had requested a trade before the previous season but ended up playing for the Buccaneers on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
