Mike Tomlin Keeps Quiet on Steelers’ QB Selection Amid Hints of Russell Wilson’s Arrival

Anticipation Builds for Pittsburgh’s Sunday Night Quarterback Reveal

George Pickens Hints at Russell Wilson’s First Game Start

There have been many reports on the rumored quarterback line-up for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ upcoming Sunday Night Football game. While head coach Mike Tomlin has stayed silent about the starter’s identity, wide receiver George Pickens indicated Russell Wilson might be leading the team against the New York Jets.

Russell Wilson’s Potential Return

Pickens suggested that Wilson, who has been held back this season due to a persistent calf injury, might take the field for the first time, saying, “Yeah, [we’ve been] getting on the same page after practice, throwing more than usual because this is his first start.” This statement came after an interview with Tomlin, where the coach declined to confirm his game plan.

Tomlin’s Comments on the Steelers’ Quarterbacks

“I am [ready to name a starter], but I’m just going to keep that in house,” Tomlin stated. He praised both Wilson and backup quarterback Justin Fields, noting their positive performances during practice. “I thought [Wilson] was sharp. I thought Justin [Fields] was sharp as well. I thought we had a highly productive week from both guys and from the unit as a whole,” he added.

Fields’ Role Amidst Wilson’s Recovery

While Wilson has been recuperating, Fields stepped up to the plate, leading the team to a 4-2 record during his six starts. Despite his impressive performance, Fields expressed doubt about his performance, stating, “I didn’t play good enough if I’m being real with you.” His coaches and teammates, however, praised his efforts.

Support from the Steelers’ Ranks

Running back Najee Harris voiced his support for Fields, saying, “I think that he did the best he possibly can… we’re all proud of him. Don’t be so hard on yourself. We got your back. I got your back.” He emphasized that the team needs both quarterbacks, adding, “all 11 of us got to pitch in and be in there.”

While the official starter announcement is awaited, both quarterbacks are preparing for the game. Wilson expressed his readiness to play, while Fields reflected on his past performances. The anticipation continues to build as fans eagerly await the Steelers’ decision.
