Vikings’ Aaron Jones Set to Make a Comeback: Hamstring Recovery Targets Thursday Practice
Latest Update: Minnesota Vikings’ Aaron Jones Hoping for Recovery
The Minnesota Vikings are closely monitoring the progress of their running back Aaron Jones, who is eager to return to practice this Thursday. Jones’ injury, initially classified as a hip concern, has now been shifted to a right hamstring issue.
Unfortunately, Jones was unable to partake in the full-pads practice session on Wednesday. When asked about Jones’ potential participation in the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell remained indecisive. “We hope that Aaron can make progress throughout the week and possibly be fit for Sunday,” commented O’Connell.
Aaron Jones’ Injury Background
Jones revealed that he first experienced tightness in his right hip during pregame warmups before the Vikings’ Week 5 match against the New York Jets in London. Although the discomfort eased off before kickoff, it returned after he made an impressive 23-yard pass catch from backup quarterback Nick Mullens during the game’s second possession.
Impact on the Vikings’ Game Strategy
“That play was the tipping point,” confessed Jones. He managed two more carries post that incident, after which the team’s medical staff decided to bench him. “They didn’t want me to risk exacerbating the injury,” Jones added.
Should Jones be unable to play against the Lions, backup Ty Chandler will take the lead. Furthermore, the team has reacquired running back Cam Akers from the Houston Texans this week, who should be ready to play against the Lions if needed.
