However, they might also be missing a key player. George Kittle, the team’s tight end, has been cleared to play following his hamstring injury, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (calf) may join him, provided his questionable status changes favorably. But Trent Williams, the left tackle, unexpectedly appeared on the injury report on Friday. After missing Wednesday’s practice due to illness, he sustained a toe injury on Thursday and was seen limping out of the locker room post Friday’s practice.

He suggested that his playing status would be determined closer to Sunday. “I came back feeling pretty good and we went to practice the past two days and still feeling good,” Samuel said. “So, we’ll just see how it goes.” If Samuel does play, it would be a much-needed positive turn of events for the 49ers. His calf injury happened late in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Deebo Samuel’s Progress and Potential Return

Despite an initial suggestion by Coach Shanahan that Deebo Samuel would be out for several weeks, Shanahan has now expressed satisfaction with Samuel’s recent progress. This improvement throughout the week may provide Samuel with the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Patriots game. Samuel confirmed, “In terms of the information I was given, I believe I’m exactly where I’m meant to be and the timeline seems to align well.”

Christian McCaffrey Returns from Treatment

Meanwhile, Christian McCaffrey, the team’s running back, has made his way back to the Bay Area following a therapeutic trip to Germany. McCaffrey underwent treatment for Achilles tendinitis, an issue that landed him on the injured reserve list on September 14. Shanahan informed that McCaffrey, who is potentially set to be cleared from the injured reserve for the October 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks, could start increasing his activity level as soon as the beginning of next week. “We’re keen on intensifying his rehabilitation from Monday,” Shanahan remarked.

As for other 49ers’ offensive players dealing with health complications this week, Brock Purdy, the team’s quarterback (back discomfort), and punt returner Jacob Cowing (sickness) are without injury labels and are prepared for the game.

On the defensive side, the team received mixed news. Defensive tackle Jordan Elliott was able to return to practice on Friday after an injury scare, though he’s listed as questionable. However, the team needs to add another defensive tackle to the roster since Javon Hargrave is expected to be put on injured reserve due to a partially torn right triceps.

Robinson and Winters’ Injury Status

Unfortunately, a more serious situation has arisen with linebacker Curtis Robinson. Robinson’s knee injury was confirmed to be a torn ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the season. It is anticipated that he will be placed on IR. This means that the 49ers will need to fill three vacant spots on their 53-man roster to substitute for the losses of Hargrave, Robinson, and McCaffrey.
