Uchenna Nwosu, Seattle Seahawks Linebacker, Bound for Injured Reserve
Seattle Seahawks’ Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu on Injured Reserve
Key Linebacker Sidelined Due to Leg Injury
The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly preparing to place their outside linebacker, Uchenna Nwosu, on injured reserve due to a severe thigh injury. This news was confirmed on Tuesday by an anonymous source, corroborating an earlier report.
Nwosu, known for his exceptional edge defending skills, will miss at least the following four games. This will make him eligible to return just in time for the Seahawks’ rematch with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11, after their bye week.
Head Coach’s Comments
Head coach Mike Macdonald disclosed on Monday that Nwosu wouldn’t be participating in Thursday’s game against the 49ers. He added, “We’ll determine in the upcoming days if his recovery time will exceed this.”
Nwosu, a veteran player in his seventh year, missed the last 11 games of the 2023 season due to a torn pectoral muscle. He also sat out during the first four games of the current season because of a sprained MCL, a result of a cut block during the preseason finale. Nwosu’s 2024 debut on Sunday, nearly a year since his last game, was abruptly ended after he played 20 snaps in Seattle’s defeat to the New York Giants.
Other Team Injuries
The Seahawks are also likely to miss the services of rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II on Thursday as they aim to break their five-game losing streak against San Francisco. Murphy, a first-round pick, has missed the previous two games due to a hamstring injury, and Macdonald believes it will take another week for his return.
Additional concerns include cornerback Riq Woolen (ankle), and outside linebackers Derick Hall (foot) and Boye Mafe (knee). Seattle’s practice reports from Monday and Tuesday showed Hall and Woolen as non-participants, while Mafe’s participation improved from limited to full. Coach Macdonald stated on Monday that Mafe’s availability for Thursday’s game will be a “last-minute decision.”
The injured reserve designation for Nwosu was first disclosed by the NFL Network.
