A Fun Display of College Rivalries in New England Patriots’ Locker Room

An Unexpected Interruption at Jacoby Brissett’s Press Conference

New England Patriots’ QB Jacoby Brissett’s News Conference Surprise

On a regular Wednesday morning, the New England Patriots’ veteran quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, was caught off guard during his press conference. The unexpected appearance was none other than the head coach, Jerod Mayo. Adding to the surprise, Mayo was carrying an eye-catching orange shirt from the University of Tennessee.

“What’s up, bro? You forgot something,” Mayo quipped as he approached Brissett, who was in the middle of answering a question.

Mayo proceeded to hand over the long-sleeved shirt to Brissett who begrudgingly put it on while commenting, “This is terrible.” Mayo, on the other hand, took pleasure in the situation. “Fantastic. Have a good one,” he said with a smile, before exiting the room.

College Rivalries and Locker Room Antics

This incident was more than just a light-hearted interruption; it was a testament to the enduring spirit of college rivalries and a reflection of the changing dynamics in the New England Patriots’ locker room. Mayo, a former player at the University of Tennessee (2004-2007), recently took over the reins from Bill Belichick who had a long tenure of 24 seasons as head coach.

The interaction was the result of a friendly wager between Mayo, third-string quarterback Joe Milton III (another Tennessee alum), and Brissett, who is an alumnus of N.C. State. The bet was simple: if the No. 24 NC State Wolfpack triumphed over the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers in an upcoming game in Charlotte, N.C., Mayo and Milton would sport a Wolfpack shirt during a media appearance. Conversely, if Tennessee won, Brissett would have to wear a Volunteers shirt.

As fate would have it, Tennessee secured an overwhelming 51-10 victory over N.C. State. Brissett, albeit reluctantly, held up his end of the bargain during his press conference, leading to a moment of laughter and camaraderie that showcased the enduring spirit of college rivalries in the NFL.
