Tyquan Lewis (DE) Lands on Injured Reserve: A Blow for the Colts

Indianapolis Colts Wrestles with Injuries: Tyquan Lewis on Injured Reserve

The recurring injuries to the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive line reached a peak this week as defensive end Tyquan Lewis was put on injured reserve. Lewis, aged 29, suffered an elbow injury during the victorious match against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.

Third Defensive Line Injury Since Training Camp

Lewis’ injury marks the third starting defensive line member that has been put on injured reserve since training camp began. Earlier, defensive end Samson Ebukam fell victim to a torn Achilles, while defensive tackle DeForest Buckner joined the injury list after a high ankle sprain during Week 2.

Timeline for Tyquan Lewis’ Injury

Having to miss at least four upcoming games, the earliest Lewis can potentially return would be for the Week 9 match against Minnesota on November 3rd.

Performance of Lewis So Far

Before the injury, Lewis had been on a roll, starting the first four games and recording 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Since being drafted by the Colts in the second round in 2018, he has made 112 tackles, 15 sacks, 10 passes defended, and one interception in his 69 games (20 starts).

New Signings for the Colts

In response to the injury setbacks, the Colts (2-2) have signed defensive tackle Adam Gotsis onto the 53-man roster from the practice squad, and cornerback Kelvin Joseph was signed to the practice squad.

Gotsis and Joseph: The New Additions

Gotsis, aged 32, was promoted from the practice squad for Sunday’s game and managed one tackle in his debut for the Colts. A second-round pick by Denver in 2016, he has 219 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and four fumble recoveries in his 122 game (54 starts) career spanning the Broncos (2016-19), Jacksonville Jaguars (2020-23), and now the Colts.

Joseph, aged 24, returns to the Colts’ practice squad, where he had stints in Weeks 2-3. Originally a 2021 second-round pick by Dallas, he has 39 tackles and one fumble recovery in 31 games (three starts) across his time with the Cowboys (2021-22), Miami Dolphins (2023), and Seattle Seahawks (2023).
