Andrew Thomas, Giants’ Left Tackle, Out for the Rest of 2024 Season Post-Surgery

Andrew Thomas to Miss 2024 Season After Lisfranc Injury

Following an injury, Andrew Thomas, the left tackle for the New York Giants, underwent surgery. The 25-year-old NFL player will be out for the remainder of the 2024 season as a result of this Lisfranc injury. Despite the setback, Thomas is projected to be completely healed in time for the organized team activities next year.

Details of the Injury

The injury to Thomas occurred during the third quarter of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals at MetLife Stadium, which resulted in a 17-7 loss for the Giants. Despite the pain, Thomas continued to play, but was visibly limping as the game continued. After the game, he described his condition as “not great” and mentioned that he was “fighting” through the discomfort.

Impact on the Giants and Thomas’ Career

The loss of Thomas represents a significant setback for the Giants. Their offensive line, which has seen substantial improvement this season, has relied heavily on Thomas, who has been a consistent performer at left tackle. After struggling with Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson during Sunday night’s match, Thomas still ranks 25th among all offensive tackles this season, boasting a pass block win rate of 88.9%.

After signing a five-year, $117 million contract extension in the previous summer, Thomas ranks ninth among all offensive tackles with a 91.8% pass block win rate since the start of 2022. This incident marks the second consecutive year that Thomas will miss a significant portion of the season. Last year, he sustained a hamstring injury in Week 1 and missed seven games.

Repercussions for the Giants and Possible Replacements

Thomas’ absence last year resulted in the Giants’ offensive line facing severe difficulties. His injury while trying to recover a blocked field goal at the start of the season was seen as a crucial turning point. Joshua Ezeudu, a third-year tackle, is likely to take Thomas’ place on the team. Ezeudu was the second-team left tackle during the summer.

The Giants (2-4) also have Evan Neal as a backup tackle. However, they have been hesitant to move Neal, the No. 7 pick in 2022, from right tackle. Other solutions could include moving Neal to right tackle and switching veteran Jermaine Eluemunor from the right to the left. Eluemunor has started seven career games at left tackle.
