Hurricane Helene Relief: NFL Players Lead the Charge

Prior to the Thursday night showdown, a unique collaboration unfolded. The Bucs’ quarterback, Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily, along with the Falcons’ quarterback, Kirk Cousins, and his wife Julie, pledged their support for the Hurricane Helene relief efforts. The two families have jointly committed $50,000 towards a collective donation of $100,000 to the non-profit organization, Team Rubicon.

Team Rubicon: Veterans Leading Disaster Response

Team Rubicon, a disaster response team led by veterans, has deployed 240 volunteers across the hardest-hit areas in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. The non-profit organization is extensively involved in road clearance, reconstruction, and sawyer work to repair vital infrastructure. At present, Team Rubicon’s teams are spread across 35 communities, actively involved in the Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 hurricane, caused wide-scale flooding along the Florida Gulf Coast. The destruction extended to Georgia and the Carolinas, with the most severe damage reported in western North Carolina. As of Thursday afternoon, the death toll across all affected states has reached 204, with rescue efforts still ongoing.

NFL’s Contribution to Hurricane Helene Relief

Tampa Bay Buccaneers have committed $1 million through the Glazer Family Foundation, and the Atlanta Falcons have pledged $2 million through the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation towards Hurricane Helene relief. The Carolina Panthers, through the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation, have donated $3 million, while the Houston Texans and the NFL Foundation have each pledged $1 million. All these efforts highlight the NFL’s commitment to supporting disaster relief initiatives.
