DeMarcus Lawrence of the Cowboys Sidelined for 4-8 Weeks Due to Lisfranc Injury

DeMarcus Lawrence, Dallas Cowboys’ Defensive End, Faces Temporary Absence Due to Injury

Injury Update on Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence

DeMarcus Lawrence, the defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury on his right foot. Although the injury doesn’t necessitate surgical intervention due to the absence of bone displacement, Lawrence is expected to be sidelined for a period ranging from four to eight weeks during his recovery, according to sources.

The injury occurred during the third quarter of the Cowboys’ victorious match against the New York Giants, where Lawrence was unable to continue playing. While pursuing Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones, Lawrence exerted significant pressure on his right foot, which led to the injury. Despite an initial attempt to resume the game, medical attention was required on the sidelines.

Comparison with Past Injuries and Future Projections

While his current injury isn’t as critical as the career-threatening one suffered by cornerback Jourdan Lewis two years prior, Lawrence is likely to be placed on the injured reserve list, ruling him out for a minimum of four games.

The Cowboys are optimistic about Lawrence’s potential return in November. Coach Mike McCarthy, on Friday, confirmed the plans for both Lawrence and fellow edge rusher Micah Parsons, who has a high sprain on his left ankle, to return this season. However, he conceded that Lawrence’s injury is more severe.

Impact on Upcoming Games and Team Adjustments

Parsons, who was injured in the fourth quarter against the Giants, might need a recovery period of two to four weeks. The Cowboys are set to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions in the coming weeks, followed by a bye on October 20. Subsequently, they will be facing the San Francisco 49ers on October 27.

In 2021, Lawrence had to miss 10 games due to a broken foot but rejoined for the last six regular-season games and the wild-card playoff round. The Cowboys have been making adjustments, promoting defensive end Carl Lawson from the practice squad for the previous two games and considering adding him to their 53-man roster.

Rookies Marshawn Kneeland and Chauncey Golston replaced Lawrence and Parsons in the New York game, but the team is also on the lookout to add a defensive end to the active roster or practice squad.
