Confirmed: Jameis Winston Set to Lead Browns as Starting Quarterback Against Ravens
Jameis Winston Steps Up as Starting Quarterback for the Cleveland Browns
Jameis Winston, an experienced and well-seasoned player, will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in their next game. This decision comes amidst a wave of injuries that have plagued the team’s top players.
Winston’s Rise Amid Injury Woes
The Browns have been dealing with significant injuries to their top two quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who were both injured in their recent loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. Coach Kevin Stefanski previously stated he would only determine the starting quarterback after receiving a medical update on Thompson-Robinson’s finger injury.
Winston Brings Experience to the Table
With a decade of experience under his belt, Winston offers the Browns a seasoned option for the upcoming game against their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. The former Heisman Trophy winner expressed his readiness for any role that the team might assign to him.
“That’s been the narrative of my professional journey in the last few years,” Winston stated. “I’m geared up and ready for whatever role I’m given. I’m here to serve.”
Winston’s Debut Announcement
Fox Sports was the first to announce on Tuesday that Winston would be filling the void left by Watson’s season-ending Achilles injury. Winston stepped in for Thompson-Robinson during the Browns’ final series on Sunday, leading a 12-play drive that ended with his touchdown pass to David Njoku.
Winston’s NFL career boasts 80 starts since being picked first by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 draft.
Browns’ Scoring Drought
This season, the Browns (1-6) have not been able to score 20 points in any of their seven games, marking their longest scoring drought in 15 years.
